Barczewski Tabbed AHA Goalie of the Week

Canisius sophomore goaltender Jacob Barczewski has been named the Atlantic Hockey Association's Goalie of the Week, league officials announced on Tuesday.

Barczewski is the third Golden Griffin to earn a weekly award this season as junior Matt Ladd (goalie) and sophomore Keaton Mastrodonato (player) were both recognized following Canisius' home-and-home sweep of Mercyhurst in early January.

A native of O'Fallon, Mo., Barczewski stopped 66-of-67 shots faced in two appearances last week to help Canisius record victories over league foes Mercyhurst and RIT. He began the week by making 31 saves in a 3-1 victory at Mercyhurst on Feb. 9, his first appearance between the pipes for Canisius since Nov. 28.

Barczewski closed out the week with a 35-save shutout in a 3-0 victory over RIT on Feb. 13, matching his career high in saves as he recorded his second career shutout.

For the season, Barczewski has appeared in four games for the Blue & Gold, posting a 3-1-0 record to go along with a 2.01 goals against average and a .942 save percentage.

Canisius (6-2-0, 6-2-0 AHA), currently riding a three-game winning streak, returns to action Tuesday with a 7 p.m. contest against Mercyhurst at LECOM Harborcenter in downtown Buffalo.
