Softball Announces 2022 Season Schedule

Canisius softball head coach Kim Griffin announced the schedule for the 2022 season on Wednesday, a slate that gets underway with a 21-game road swing.

The Golden Griffins open the 43rd season in program history with an appearance in the USC Upstate Tournament, where it is slated to face South Carolina State and Northern Kentucky (Feb. 18-20). Canisius will remain in Spartanburg to play a doubleheader against USC Upstate on Feb. 21.

The Blue and Gold then head north to the Tar Heel State to square off against UNCW in a midweek doubleheader on Feb. 23. The Griffs will then take part in the UNCW Tournament against the Seahawks and North Carolina Central (Feb. 25-27).

A trip to Delaware to face the Blue Hens and Penn State (March 12-13) opens the month of March for Canisius.

The Griffs then head down south for the final time in the campaign for a stretch of six games in Tampa, Fla., that begins on March 18 and features games against Ohio State, Purdue, Lehigh, Division I newcomer St. Thomas and USF.

Canisius returns to Western New York to square off against Big Four rival Buffalo with a doubleheader in its home opener at the Demske Sports Complex on March 29.

The Blue and Gold continue its homestand with doubleheaders versus Quinnipiac (April 2) and Marist (April 3) to open Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.
Canisius returns to non-conference play with a doubleheader at Little Three foe St. Bonaventure (April 5), one of three of non-league matchups during the month that also features a trip to Syracuse (April 13) and a visit from the Bonnies (April 20) to close out non-conference play.

The MAAC schedule features road doubleheaders against league foes Rider (April 9), Monmouth (April 10), Siena (April 16), Fairfield (April 23) and Iona (April 24).

The Griffs close out the regular season with six straight home games, beginning with a doubleheader against defending league champion Manhattan (April 30) while also featuring twin bills against Saint Peter's (May 1) and Battle of the Bridge rival Niagara (May 8).

The 2022 MAAC Softball Championship will be a six-team, double-elimination tournament. It will be hosted by the number one seed May 11-14. The winner of the tournament will receive the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
