Marist Drops Volleyball in Four Sets

Marist junior Jordan Newblatt put down a match-high 31 kills and also recorded 21 digs to help lead the homestanding Red Foxes to a 3-1 win over Canisius Saturday night at McCann Arena in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The Red Foxes improved to 10-9 overall and 5-3 in MAAC play with the win, while the Golden Griffins slipped to 4-12 overall and 4-3 in conference action.

The 31 kills for Newblatt, who posted 10 kills when the Griffs hosted the Red Foxes in Buffalo back on Sept. 19, set a new Marist program record for kills in a four-set match. For Canisius, junior Ella Loussia had a season-high 19 kills in the losing effort for the Blue and Gold, who saw their four-match win streak over the Red Foxes come to an end with the loss.

In the second set, Marist hit .342 as a team and Newblatt added seven more kills to the home team's effort, as the Red Foxes went into the intermission up 2-0 after recording a 25-19 win.

In that frame, Loussia and senior Rachel Kinney each had four kills to lead the way offensively for the Griffs. However, Marist put an end to the contest in the fourth set with a 25-17 victory. In that frame, Newblatt registered 10 kills, including set-point to wrap up the evening in favor of the home team.
