Siena Defeats Men’s Soccer

Jacob Sandun Arachchige-Jensen scored two of Siena's five unanswered goals, allowing the Saints to cruise to a 5-1 victory over Canisius in MAAC men's soccer action Wednesday at Hickey Field in Loudonville, N.Y.
 
Jacob Pacheco opened the game's scoring in the 27th minute, giving Siena a 1-0 lead.
 
Sandun Arachchige-Jensen potted the first of his two second-half goals just 97 seconds into the frame.
 
Siena strung together three goals over a span of 6:51 of game play, giving the Saints a 5-0 lead. Nick Fernandes, Sandun Arachchige-Jensen and Jack Mendrysa were credited with the tallies.
 
Lachlan Beever scored Canisius' lone goal of the day in the 77th minute on a rebound after an Alessio Atzori shot from 25 yards out was stopped by Saints goalkeeper Greg Monroe.
 
GAME NOTES
• Siena came away with a victory in the 34th all-time meeting between the two New York-based MAAC schools. The Saints now lead the series, 20-11-3.
• Beever's goal extended Canisius' goal streak to 10 games, which is the longest since also scoring in 10 straight contests during the 2017 season.
 
UP NEXT
• Canisius returns home for its final home contest of the 2021 season, hosting Fairfield on Saturday. Kickoff from the Demske Sports Complex on Senior Day is slated for 1 p.m.
