Men’s Soccer Falls to Fairfield on Senior Day

Jonathan Filipe factored in all four of Fairfield's goals, aiding the visiting Stags to a 4-1 victory over Canisius in MAAC men's soccer action Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at the Demske Sports Complex.

The Griffs honored Alessio AtzoriLachlan Beever and Glorie Ndagano before the team's annual Senior Day game.

Beever quickly opened the scoring, netting a goal just 1:57 into the Senior Day affair. Ndagano made a sliding pass near midfield to Beever, who got past Fairfield's goalkeeper, Will Marment, to deposit his team-leading fifth goal.

After receiving a pass from Filipe, Fairfield's Thomas Drillen tied the game in the 20th minute.

Filipe led the Stags' offense the rest of the day. He scored the first of his three unanswered goals in the 36th minute, as Nadav Zarmi assisted on that tally.

His second goal came just 73 seconds into the second half, as Ndagano took down a Fairfield player inside the penalty area, resulting in a Stags penalty kick. Filipe's shot went into the upper left corner of the goal, putting the Stags ahead, 3-1.

The last of Filipe's goals came in the 88th minute as Canisius goalkeeper William Howard went out of the net and Filipe was able to evade Howard to secure his hat trick goal.

Atzori and Beever led Canisius in shot attempts, recording three apiece. Beever had a team-high two shots on goal.

Fairfield and Canisius were tied in shot attempts on the day, 11-11, despite the Stags having a slim advantage in shots on target, 7-5.

GAME NOTES
• With Beever's second-minute goal, the Griffs have now scored in 11 consecutive matches, tying the program record for the longest goal-scoring streak in program history. The previous record was set during the final nine games of the 2002 season and the first two games of 2003.
• Beever's goal was Canisius' fastest to open a contest since Melvin Blair scored 58 seconds into an Oct. 18, 2017 match against Monmouth.
