FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

1. Setting the Pitch
The Canisius men's soccer team opens a two-game road trip with a meeting on the Jersey Shore against MAAC foe Monmouth. Kickoff is slated for a 2 p.m. start from Hesse Field on the Great Lawn in West Long Branch, N.J.

2. Last Time Out
Goals from three different Saint Peter's players led the Peacocks to a 3-1 victory over Canisius in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's soccer action at the Demske Sports Complex this past Wednesday afternoon.

Saint Peter's opened the scoring in the 26th minute as Jamie Davis and Brian Carvalhoso were credited with assists on Matt Ellis' tally, putting the visiting Peacocks ahead.

Two minutes later, Canisius countered Saint Peter's goal with their own as Jo Preci's cross into the penalty area was headed into the goal by Lachlan Beever. The header by Beever was a high-arching shot that was out of reach of Saint Peter's goalkeeper, Herman Wulff.

Following the halftime break, Matt Hoyt netted the eventual game-winning marker for Saint Peter's in the 71st minute.

Antonio Green added an insurance marker for the Peacocks with an 86th minute goal.

Canisius peppered Saint Peter's with 16 shot attempts, but only two were on target. Beever was credited with both shots on goal, with the latter coming in the 75th minute.

3. Series History
Saturday will mark the eighth match between Canisius and Monmouth, with all of the previous matches coming since the Hawks joined the MAAC during the 2013-14 academic year.

Canisius has won three of its last four against Monmouth and has a slim 4-3-0 lead in all-time meetings. The Griffs are 2-1-0 in West Long Branch, having won its last two matches against the Hawks in the Garden State.

4. Beever's Scoring Touch
Lachlan Beever has been the Griffs' go-to scorer as of late, as the Bendigo, Australia, native has scored in three of the team's last four contests.

His tally in Wednesday's loss to Saint Peter's established a Division I career high, besting his two-goal season this past spring.

5. Goalkeeping Staying Strong
Canisius' goalkeeping has been strong in net this season averaging 5.91 saves per contest, which is second amongst Division I programs, only trailing the NEC's Howard (6.09). Quinnipiac is second in the MAAC, trailing the Griffs with its 5.33 saves per game average.

William Howard is also second amongst Division I goalkeepers this season in saves per game (6.00), after he has stopped 52 shots in his nine appearances. Bryant's Jack Bacon has the nation lead with his 6.12 clip (49 saves in eight appearances).
