Canisius trailed for just 1:10 of game action before Timbers connected on a layup to give the Griffs a 6-5 lead early on in the first quarter. That sparked an 11-2 run by Canisius, highlighted by seven points from Sanderlin, forcing Niagara to call a timeout. The Griffs kept their foot on the gas following the timeout going up by double-digits, 21-10, over the next four minutes of play.

Freshman Shaunae Brown would again give Canisius a 17-point lead as she kissed a layup off the glass to make the score 46-29 with 7:31 left in the third. The lead would continue to grow for the Golden Griffins as a Sanderlin driving layup gave the team a 24-point lead with 38 seconds remaining in the third. Edwards would hit a jumper with 19 seconds remaining to put Niagara down 22 as the third quarter buzzer sound.

The Purple Eagles would continue to trim the Griffs lead back down to 17, 63-46 as a Jai Moore fast-break layup capped off a 7-0 run by Niagara. However, from there, Canisius would outscore the visitors 15-7 in the over the next five-plus minutes to go up 78-53, its largest lead of the game. Head Coach Scott Hemer's Postgame Comments
"At the end of the day they came out incredibly focused and that is a credit to their ability to put themselves in a position to have success, and it paid off for them. They came out in attack mode and showed no fear of the pressure and the confidence was through the roof, and the scoreboard reflected that."

"We said before the game, let's go get a win streak. At the end of the day when it comes to rivalry games, records don't matter and I think you saw some of that tonight. These players know what they are capable of when they are focused and in the right frame of mind to take it to the opponent."

"It is the right time of year to start building confidence in what you can do on the floor."
