Coming off an offense-packed first four games of the season, the Canisius baseball team is set to continue its 2020 campaign this weekend with a four-game series at Winthrop. The Golden Griffins and Eagles open the series with a 3 p.m. first pitch on Friday before playing a twin-bill on Saturday, and closing the series at noon on Sunday.

Scouting Canisius
• The Griffs, after going 1-3 against UMass Lowell on opening weekend, headed to West Virginia for the Mountaineers' home opener. Despite taking an early lead in the first, the Blue and Gold could not overcome a six-run sixth inning by WVU, as the two teams combined for 23 runs in a 15-8 Mountaineers win.
• Senior Jake Burlingame was awarded MAAC Player of the Week for his weekend against UMass Lowell, while freshman Mike DeStefano earned the conference's Rookie of the Week honors. Burlingame went 7-for-17 with two home runs and four steals in the series, and DeStefano tallied three hits, including a double in his first collegiate plate appearance, to produce two runs and two RBI.
• Racking up career highs with three hits and five RBI in the season opener, senior Andy Leader finished the first weekend with the team lead in hits (eight) and RBI (eight), recording three multi-hit contests.
• Redshirt-junior Gibson Krzeminski, a former Mountaineer, had two hits and three RBI against his old team on Tuesday, bringing himself to a .375 average in 2020 and leading the Griffs with eight walks on the season.
• On the mound, senior Kyle Warner and sophomore Andrew Fron both led the Canisius pitching staff with impressive starts on Saturday, as Warner picked up the win after allowing three runs over six innings while Fron fanned seven batters over five scoreless innings in the nightcap. Sophomore reliever David Yankowski has combined for five innings and seven strikeouts in his two appearances, sporting a 1.80 ERA.

Scouting Winthrop
• The Eagles are undefeated through three games this season, as Winthrop swept Maine on opening weekend, outscoring the Black Bears by a combined 25-9 margin in the three wins.
• Dillon Morton and Scout McFalls both enter Friday with a team-leading five hits, with each player already having multiple doubles. Morton has notched two doubles and three walks, while McFalls has doubled three times and swiped two bases.
• Five RBI from C.J. Conrad leads the Eagles, as the outfielder has done so on three hits, including a triple. On the other end, McFalls and Ethan Fewell have accounted for four runs scored apiece.
• Thad Harris leads the pitching staff after a stellar first start to the season, as the left-hander tossed six innings of one-run, two-hit ball, getting the win after striking out eight while issuing only one walk.
• Daniel Blair and Andrew Coker both threw four innings against Maine, as Blair allowed one hit and one run while punching out four in his first start of 2020, and Coker did not give up a hit across four frames of relief.

Series History and Notes
• The all-time series for the two teams sits at 3-2 in favor of Winthrop, with the Eagles taking two of three from the Griffs back in 2017.
• That 2017 weekend series saw Canisius take the opener, 9-5, in ten innings, while Winthrop won the next two games by 2-1 and 3-1 scores.
• Burlingame, then a freshman, recorded a hit and an RBI in the second game of that series.

Up Next
• Canisius heads back to the state of West Virginia next weekend for a four-game series at Marshall, taking on the Thundering Herd from Feb. 28-March 1.
