Game Recap
Quinnipiac (7-8, 4-2 MAAC) had four players reach double figures, led by 19 points from freshman Cur'Tiera Heywood, as the Bobcats outlasted the Golden Griffins (2-13, 1-5 MAAC) in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at People's United Center in Hamden, Conn.

Heywood added six rebounds to go with her team-high 19 points while teammate Mikala Morris tallied 18 points on 9-for-12 shooting. MacKenzie Dewees and Shaq Edwards added 13 and 11 points, respectively. Dewees also grabbed eight rebounds in the game and Edwards recorded four steals in the win. As a team, Quinnipiac shot 38.9 percent from the field, including a 26.9 percent clip from 3-point land. The Bobcats won the battle on the glass, 45-42.

Canisius was led by senior D'Jhai Patterson-Ricks who scored 23 points on 9-for-16 shooting, including a 3-for-7 mark from 3-point range. Graduate transfer AJ Timbers tallied 15 points, connecting on five 3-pointers in the loss, as well as grabbing six caroms and three helpers. Freshman Shaunae Brown added 11 points, three rebounds and two assists in the loss. Junior Danielle Sanderlin grabbed eight rebounds to go with seven points. The Blue and Gold went 28-for-67 from the field, including 10-for-20 from the perimeter.

Sophomore Shayla Sweeney connected on a 3-pointer in the waning seconds of the first half to give the Golden Griffins a nine-point lead, 48-39, heading into the locker rooms.

Quinnipiac would claw back from 11 down in the third quarter as Canisius was only able to score six points in the third frame. The Bobcats tied the game on two occasions in the fourth quarter, first at 61, when Dewees finished the fast break opportunity with a layup at the 7:30 mark and again at the 5:14 mark with a jumper from Morris in the paint.

From there, Quinnipiac would use the next five minutes of action to go up by five points 71-66 with 21 seconds remaining. Timbers would hit a 3-pointer from the elbow to pull the Griffs within two with less than 15 seconds left, however, Quinnipiac would ice the game at the line and hold on for a 74-71 win.

Head Coach Scott Hemer's Postgame Comments
"I loved how the team competed today against a perennial MAAC powerhouse like Quinnipiac. We are improving on both sides of the floor which is a great sign, and the team is not settling for anything especially following a loss."

"We are getting closer and I am proud of their resilience."
