Indoor Track Opens Season at RIT Invitational

The Canisius men's and women's indoor track program is set to open the 2020 season at the RIT Invitational Saturday, Jan. 18. The meet is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start at the Gordon Field House in Rochester, N.Y.

Last Season at the RIT Invitational
• Senior Marcus Brown had the lone first-place finish for the Golden Griffins at the 2019 RIT Invtie, winning the 800 with a time of 2:00.76.
• Nick Neamtu ran in the mile, finishing with a time of 4:31.08 for second place.
• In the men's 3K, an Michael Peppy, Turner Dirrigl and Anthony Belfatto finished three-four-five with times of 9:20.40, 9:21.00 and 9:21.05.
• For the women, Bailey Pierce and Kayla Leo finished in the top-five of the mile with times of 5:24.21 and 5:46.49, respectively.
• Isabella Iadicicco and Libby Benzer ran in the 1,000-meter finishing with times of 3:25.18 and 3:30.89 in second and third place.

New Additions
• Since the end of the cross country season, the women's team has added two new student-athletes to its roster. Former women's soccer standout Madeline Beaulieu, along with Erica Meehan.

MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll
• Canisius was selected to finish eighth (men's) and ninth (women's) in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.
• At last year's championship, the Blue and Gold finished in eighth place in both the men's and women's standings.
• The MAAC Indoor Championships return to the New Balance Armory in New York City for the 17th consecutive year. This year's championships will take place Feb. 22-23.

Up Next
Canisius travels to Geneva, Ohio for the Spire Institute Midwest Open on Jan. 24 & 25. The meet is set to start 6:15 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday.
