Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Second Half Surge Sinks Men’s Soccer at Bowling Green

Bowling Green scored four goals in the second half to erase a halftime deficit and defeat Canisius, 4-1, in collegiate men's soccer action Saturday at Cochrane Stadium in Bowling Green, Ohio.

Chris Sullivan, Chris Brennan, Ike Swiger and Matt Walters all found the back of the net in the final 45 minutes for the Falcons (5-3-1), who trailed 1-0 at the break after Freshman Alessandro Fabiano opened the scoring for the Golden Griffins (1-6-0) with his first collegiate tally in the 16th minute.

Anthony Mwembia and Logan Kowalczyk combined to make four saves in goal for BGSU while freshman Fabio D'Errico finished with six stops for Canisius.

Fabiano staked the Griffs to a 1-0 lead just past the 15-minute mark of the contest, putting home a rebound opportunity from the middle of the box after freshman Jonny Tekie's from the left side initial attempt was turned aside by Mwembia.

Sullivan brought BGSU level a little more than three minutes into the second half, collecting a feed from Kale Nichols and placing a shot past D'Errico into the lower right-hand corner of the net. Jensen Lukacsko was also credited with an assist on the play.

Brennan gave the Falcons the lead in the 60th minute when he put a pass from Abdi Faqi past D'Errico and inside the left post from the right side of the box to make it a 2-1 game.

Swiger and Walters closed out the scoring with a pair of insurance markers less than five minutes apart midway through the final frame.

Swiger stretched the BGSU margin to 3-1 in the 72nd minute on a turn-around shot from the top of the box that found the lower left-hand corner of the net. Walters determined the final margin at the 76:18 mark when he took advantage of a Sullivan through ball to get behind the Canisius defense before beating D'Errico in a 1-on-1 situation for his first of the season.

Head Coach Dermot McGrane's Postgame Comments
"I thought we played very well in the first 45 minutes; well enough that we deserved to be a goal up at halftime. Unfortunately, the game is 90 minutes long. The end result is the one that counts and it illustrates what happens when you fail to show up to play in the second 45 minutes."
