Long-time Canisius Supporter Pat McMahon Passes Away

The Canisius athletic department is saddened to learn of the passing of Patricia (Pat) McMahon on June 29.

McMahon, along with her husband Don, were recognized by the Canisius athletic department in 2014 as the second winners of the Rev. Paul J. Dugan S.J. Award, presented to individuals who do not qualify for consideration into the Canisius Sports Hall of Fame, but whose acts or efforts have significantly benefited Canisius athletics. The McMahons were staples at Golden Griffin games, both at home and on the road, and the couple epitomized the definitions of loyalty, friendship and support.

After Pat and Don were married in 1958, the couple became regulars at Canisius sporting events, often bringing their five children to games. Pat became a part of the Canisius team when she and Don began providing a hospitality area for the parents of the women's basketball team during home games.

"On behalf of the entire Canisius athletic department, I express my sincere condolences to the McMahon family," Canisius Director of Athletics Bill Maher said. "Pat, along with her husband Don, went above and beyond to show their support and loyalty to all of the athletic teams here for a long time. As a couple, they were more than just fans, they were part of the family fabric our athletic department prides itself on. We will miss seeing her at Canisius events, both at home and on the road."
