Rowing Takes Top Spots in Kerr Cup’s Petite Finals

The Canisius rowing team competed Saturday at the Kerr Cup in Philadelphia, Pa., racing against national competition. Taking part in the event for the second-straight spring, the Golden Griffins raced two varsity eight crews at the regatta.

The second varsity eight boat opened the day for the Griffs, finishing fourth in Heat 1 with a 7:45.13 time behind Drexel, George Mason and Colgate.

The first varsity eight boat followed later in the day with a 7:10.32 posting in Heat 1, coming in after Drexel, Jefferson and Villanova while beating out former MAAC member Loyola.

Racing in the petite final, the second varsity eight took the top spot with a time of 8:06.19, edging out Jefferson and Loyola.

Competing in their own petite final as well, the first varsity eight rowed to a 7:18.52 time that placed them first, ahead of Loyola and George Mason.

The Griffs return home to the West Side Rowing Club to race against MAAC foe Robert Morris as part of the 2019 Black Rock Cup. The regatta kicks off April 28 at 8 a.m.
