Rowing Stays Home for Schaab Regatta

The Canisius rowing team takes part in its first local event of 2019 Saturday morning at the West Side Rowing Club, as the Golden Griffins compete in the Jim Schaab Collegiate Regatta.

The regatta is set for an 8 a.m. start, with the Griffs sending out a varsity eight crew, a novice eight boat and a pair of varsity four boats.

Last Time Out
• The Blue and Gold raced two varsity eight boats at the Cooper Invitational, facing fellow MAAC teams Fairfield, Marist, Robert Morris and Sacred Heart.
• The first varsity eight kicked off the Golden Griffins' day with a time of 7:12.53 in the third of three heats, finishing third out of four boats and advancing to the petite final.
• Soon after, the second varsity eight placed fifth in the first heat, coming in at 8:13.61. This put the Griffs' second crew into the petite final.
• The first varsity eight then came out and posted a 7:10.78 time that gave them second place in the petite final behind Dayton.
• The second varsity eight closed out the day of competition with a 7:50.47 posting, placing fourth in the petite final.

Cooper Invitational Notes
• This will be the second time that the Griffs participate in the Schaab Regatta, with Canisius having made their debut in the event last spring.
• The 2018 Schaab Regatta saw the first varsity four finish second in their heat, but not advance to the finals.
• The second varsity eight won their heat before coming in third in the finals against two RIT boats.
• Canisius did take home first place in the varsity four race, as the Griffs' crew won their first heat and followed it up by taking the top spot in the finals.
