Five Things to Know Before Men's Lacrosse Squares Off Against League-Leading Detroit Mercy Saturday

1) Race to the Finish
• Heading into the final three weeks of the regular season, Saturday's matchup between Canisius and Detroit Mercy features two of the four teams in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with just one league loss on its resume. Heading into Saturday's contest, Detroit Mercy stands alone at the top of the league standings with a 4-1 ledger while Canisius, Marist and Quinnipiac are all a half-game back of the Titans at 3-1. The top four teams in the regular-season standings will advance to the 2019 MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship, slated for May 2-4 at Tenney Stadium in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

2) MAAC Title Game Rematch
• For the second consecutive week, Canisius faces one of the teams it defeated on its way to capturing the 2018 MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship title last May. The Griffs edged Detroit Mercy in the championship game, 10-9, battling back to erase a two-goal deficit in the final minutes of regulation before junior Mathieu Boissonneault scored the game-winning goal just six seconds into overtime to give Canisius its third league tournament title in program history.

3) Jesuit Rivals Clash
• Saturday's matchup features two of the eight Jesuit schools playing Division I lacrosse in Canisius and Detroit Mercy. The others are Fairfield, Georgetown, Holy Cross, Loyola (Md.), Marquette and St. Joseph's. Canisius holds a combined 9-24 record against the other playing lacrosse-playing Jesuit institutions, having played all of them with the exception of Holy Cross or Marquette.

4) Boissonneault Family Bragging Rights on the Line Saturday
• Detroit Mercy and Canisius do share a common family bond on the lacrosse field in the Boissonneault family. While Griffs junior Mathieu Boissonneault ranks second on the Griffs this season with 23 goals and is rapidly approaching the 100-point plateau for his career, he will have some work to do in order to match the career outputs of his older sister, Emily, who starred for the Titans women's lacrosse program from 2009-12. Emily is the Titan's career leader with 272 points and 242 goals. She is still in the NCAA Division I record books as she ranks ninth in career caused turnovers per game (2.28), tied for 15th in caused turnovers (157), 16th in goals per game (3.51) and tied for 16th in career goals (242).

5) Taking Advantage of the Man Advantage
• Saturday's matchup features two of the more proficient man-up offenses in the MAAC as Canisius ranks first in the league in man-up scoring percentage (.500) while Detroit Mercy sits second (.405). The two teams also rank 1-2 in terms of the number of man-up goals it has scored this season, with the Griffs having 18 man-up goals to its credit and the Titans boasting 15.
