Youngstown State started the game on a 17-6 run to take control of the contest and outscore the Golden Griffins 28-14 in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Youngstown continued to pour it on offensively to take a 50-28 lead into the locker rooms.

Jackson scored 14 of her total 22 points in the first half to lead the Penguins to the 22-point advantage at the break.

Out of the break, Youngstown State extended its lead to 62-31 on the heels of a 12-3 run to start the third quarter. Canisius would cut the Penguins lead to 23-points in the third quarter when Patterson-Ricks hit a jumper outside the paint to make the score, 66-43. Youngstown's Jackson would hit a 3-pointer right before the buzzer to bring the lead back up to 26-points.

Canisius would go blow-for-blow with Youngstown State in the fourth quarter but it was too late as Youngstown would cruise to the 28-point win on opening night.

Head coach Scott Hemer's Post Game Comments
"We thought we would have a better showing this season against Youngstown State, however, they went through stretches where they just couldn't miss from the perimeter. We had some positives, such as offensive rebounding and free-throw shooting, but still, have a lot of areas we need to improve on."
