Women's Soccer Falls to Rider in Overtime

Box Score Despite a late game-tying goal by senior Margretta Dry, the Canisius women's soccer team fell in overtime to Rider on Wednesday evening at the Demske Sports Complex.

Though scoreless through the first 75 minutes of the contest, Rider's Hailey Russell struck first to give the Broncs (8-3-4, 5-1-2 MAAC) a 1-0 advantage.

However, the Golden Griffins (6-7-2, 1-5-2 MAAC) were not going away quietly. With five minutes left in regulation, sophomore Hannah Morpurgo sent a cross that Dry was able to get a head on, sending the game to overtime.

In the final seconds of the first overtime period, Russell found the back of the net with a shot into the upper left corner of the net, earning her second goal of the game.

Senior goalkeeper Alana Rossi made six saves in the loss for Canisius. Carmen Carbonell also recorded six saves in the win for Rider.

The Broncs out-shot the Griffs 19-14, but the two teams tied with the total number of shots on goal with six.

Head Coach Todd Clark's Postgame Comments
"The way we have competed against the MAAC itself goes past the record we have. I'm extremely proud of this team. We showed up and played until the game was over. We keep proving that we are not the same team we have been in recent years and I believe that is something to be proud of."
