The Canisius men's soccer team opens Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play Wednesday with a 4 p.m. matinee against Siena at the Demske Sports Complex in downtown Buffalo.
 
The game will be shown live on ESPN3.
 
Scouting Canisius
• The Golden Griffins turn their focus to league play after wrapping up non-nonconference play with a 4-1 setback at Bowling Green on Sept. 28.
• Freshman Alessandro Fabiano accounted for the lone Canisius tally against the Falcons, recording his first collegiate tally with his goal in the first half on Saturday.
• Fellow freshman Jonny Tekie picked up his second assist of the season with the helper on Fabiano's first-half tally. He's one of three Canisius players with two assists this season.
• Redshirt-freshman Fabio D'Errico made six saves in goal for Canisius against the Falcons, marking the fourth time in five starts this season that he has recorded five or more stops.
 
Scouting Siena
• Siena opens conference play with a 3-5-0 ledger after wrapping up non-conference play with a 1-0 defeat at Cornell on Sept. 24.
• Alejandro Riquelme leads the Saints attack with 10 points on the strength of a league-best six assists.
• Conor McGlynn and Samuel Schwarz are tied for the team lead with three goals apiece.
• Greg Monroe has seen the majority of time in goal for Siena, posting a 2.25 goals against average and a .667 save percentage in 639 minutes of work.
 
Canisius-Siena Series Notes
• Wednesday's contest serves as the 32nd meeting between the two programs.
• Siena holds a 17-11-3 advantage in the all-time series, including a 5-3-2 edge in the last 10 matchups.
• The Saints posted a 2-0 victory in their matchup last season at the Siena Turf Field in Loudonville. Sophomore Birgir Thorsteinsson tallied both goals and classmate Greg Monroe recorded six saves between the pipes for the host Saints.
