The Canisius men's soccer team competes its season-opening road swing this weekend with a pair of matches in Pennsylvania.

The Golden Griffins begin the weekend Friday with a 7 p.m. contest against Bucknell at Emmitt Field in Lewisburg, Pa., before traveling to Loretto, Pa., Sunday for a 1 p.m. matinee against Saint Francis at Degol Field.

Last Time Out
• Canisius saw its Labor Day contest at Michigan postponed due to inclement weather. The teams are attempting to find a makeup date to play the contest.
• In their previous outing against No. 5 Michigan State on Aug. 31, the Griffs used goals from sophomore Filippo Tamburini and freshman Jo Preci late in the second half to pull within one, but the Spartans held on for a 3-2 victory at DeMartin Stadium in East Lansing, Mich.
• Trailing 3-0 with 15 minutes to play, Tamburini and Preci scored a little more than four minutes apart make it a one-goal game.
• Canisius nearly tied the contest in the 83rd minute, but MSU keeper Hunter Morse turned aside Tamburini's attempt for the equalizer. That would be as close as the Griffs would get as MSU held Canisius without a shot on goal the rest of the way to ensure the victory.
• Michigan State posted a 13-8 shot advantage for the match, but Canisius enjoyed a 6-5 edge in shots attempted during the second half. The Griffs were awarded four of the six corner kicks taken during the matchup.

Scouting Bucknell
• The Bison bring a 1-1-0 mark into Friday's matchup after opening the 2018 campaign with a win against Mount St. Mary's and loss to St. Francis. Both contests were decided by identical 2-0 margins.
• Tyler Peterson leads Bucknell in scoring with two points while Nick King and Trevor Wiggins are tied for second with one assist each.
• Ryan Ott has started both games in goal for the Bison, compiling a 1.00 goals against average and a .750 save percentage in 180 minutes of work.

Canisius-Bucknell Series Notes
• Friday's match will serve as the sixth meeting between Canisius and Bucknell, all of which have taken place since 2002.
• The Griffs hold a 3-2 lead in the all-time series as they have won each of the last three matchups.
• Canisius posted a 2-1 victory over Bucknell in their most recent matchup at the Duquesne Invitational on Sept. 9, 2016.

Scouting Saint Francis
• The Red Flash stand at 2-2-0 on the season after suffering a 3-2 overtime setback at NJIT on Wednesday that saw the Highlanders tie the game in the 89th minute before claiming victory with a golden goal 68 seconds before the end of the first overtime session.
• Mario Mastrangelo leads the Saint Francis attack, accounting for seven (3g, 1a) of the team's 13 points this season.
• Lucas Rosa and Kevin Smalyn are tied for second on the team's scoring chart with three points.
• The duo of Jonas Dieseler and Alex Marget has split time in goal for the Red Flash in the early doing. Together, the tandem has combined to post a 0.95 goals against average and a 0.636 save percentage.

Canisius-Saint Francis Series Notes
• Sunday's match will serve as the 15th matchup between Canisius and St. Francis in a series that dates back to the 1992 season.
• The Flash hold a 10-3-1 edge in the all-time series, including a 3-1-1 ledger in the last five meetings.
• Canisius and St. Francis (Pa.) played to a scoreless draw in their most recent matchup, held Sept. 28, 2014 at the Demske Sports Complex.
