Rowing Returns to Water for Mercyhurst Invitational

The Canisius rowing team will be traveling down Interstate 90 this weekend to continue its 2018 fall schedule, as the Golden Griffins are taking part in the Mercyhurst Invitational Sept. 29. The regatta is set for an 8 a.m. start.

Last Time Out
• The Blue and Gold took part in the Head of the Welland on Sept. 22.
• The Griffs sent two varsity four boats. The "A" squad consisted of Misa Gamble, Sydney Bichsel, Shannon Pritzker, Alexandra Heinz and Anezka Krobot, while the "B" boat was made up of Emma Sabio, Max McGuire, Allyson Matrassi, Bridget Lillis and Emma Vicaretti.
• The "B" varsity four placed first with a time of 20:57.666, while the "A" varsity four finished second with a time of 21:08.413.

Mercyhurst Invitational Notes
• This will be the third-straight year the Griffs have raced at the regatta • The Blue and Gold have taken part in the event's inaugural running in 2016 as well as the 2017 edition of the race.
• The regatta is held at Findley Lake, N.Y. and hosted by Mercyhurst University.
• The event is also known as the Findley Lake Autumn Classic.

Coach Kerri Brace's Pre-Regatta Comments
"We're excited to get out and race this weekend against some really great crews. As a Mercyhurst alumni, it means a lot to me to be able to take our program to Findley Lake and race against one of the best Division II programs in the country. The format of this race allows us to make gains not only in our distance work, but provides an opportunity to work on some sprint work as well. The team has continued to learn and grow and race-day is always a good time to build on that foundation."
