Stevenson and Wilson Sign Pro Deals with Quebec Capitales

Former Canisius standouts J.P. Stevenson and Liam Wilson have both agreed to professional contracts with the Can-Am League's Quebec Capitales. The team announced the Stevenson signing last Wednesday, while Wilson agreed to terms on Tuesday.

The Quebec Capitales are the defending champion of the independent-level Can-Am League.

Stevenson, a two-time member of the Canadian Junior National Team, made his pro debut on July 18, working 3.1 innings and allowing an earned run while recording one strikeout.

A native of New Glasgow, P.E.I., Stevenson pitched in 60 games for the Griffs over his four seasons at Canisius, making 55 starts and logging 302.1 innings. He posted a career 3.90 ERA while tallying 28 wins and 267 strikeouts.

As a senior, Stevenson registered a 2.73 ERA in 16 starts and one relief appearance, leading the Griffs with 99.0 innings pitched and striking out a MAAC-leading 93 batters. His 10 wins ranked 10th in the nation, earning Stevenson the honor of 2018 MAAC Pitcher of the Year.

Wilson, the program record-holder with 59 career doubles, debuted July 24 for the Capitales, recording three at-bats in a 4-1 win against Ottawa.

A native of Ayr, Ontario, Wilson posted a .337 batting average during his three years in the Blue and Gold, playing in 170 games and making 168 starts. The utility infielder also notched 13 home runs and 121 RBI in his time with the Griffs, registering a .414 on-base percentage and .510 slugging percentage.

As a redshirt senior, Wilson hit .353 and finished third nationally with 27 doubles, also leading the MAAC with 52 runs scored and smashing nine home runs. Additionally, Wilson posted a .434 on-base percentage and .624 slugging percentage on his way to his second All-MAAC First Team selection.

Stevenson and Wilson are the third and fourth members of the 2018 MAAC Champions to sign professional contracts, following Tyler Smith's selection by the Los Angeles Angels in the 2018 MLB Draft and Christ Conley signing with the Utica Unicorns of the independent United Shore Professional Baseball League.
