Baseball Drops Mid-Week Game

GAME RECAP
LEWISTON, N.Y. -  A four-run sixth inning propels Niagara past visiting Canisius, 9-5 Wednesday afternoon at Bobo Field in Lewiston, N.Y. The Purple Eagles move to 17-22 on the season as the Golden Griffins fall to 24-18 overall.

Niagara struck first as junior Greg Cullen fisted a ball out to right field bringing in the game's first run in senior Julian Gallup, who was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning.
 
The Golden Griffins answered back with two tallies in the top of the third as senior Ryan Stekl doubled to right center to plate junior Canice Ejoh, and redshirt senior Christ Conley shot a single into right field to take the 2-1 advantage.
 
The Purple Eagles manufactured two runs of their own in the third and fourth innings on back-to-back RBI singles by seniors Owen Dziados and Philippe Langlois, coupled with a two-run home run by Gallup, to go up 5-2 after four frames.
 
Niagara added four runs in the sixth on four hits including RBI hits by Langlois, redshirt senior Trevor McCauley and freshman Steven Kokoski to go up, 9-2.
 
Canisius rallied in the top of the ninth as they plated three runs on two hits, but it wasn't enough as they Griffs fell, 9-5.
 
Sophomore Carson Perkins received the mid-week start for the Blue and Gold on the mound. The 6-foot-4 right-hander labored through 2.2 innings, surrendering three runs on three hits while hitting four batters before handing the ball off to four Canisius relievers to finish the remaining 5.1 innings of the contest.
 
For the home squad, freshman left-hander Alexandre Jones toed the rubber for the first three frames allowing two runs on four hits, while fanning five. Sophomore Alex MacKinnon picked up the victory as didn't allow a run on three hits as he struck out four over the next four innings.
 
GAME NOTES
• With one walk Wednesday, Conley has been issued 107 career free passes placing him fourth all-time in school history, passing Conner Panas ('15).
• Conley was also hit by a pitch three times Wednesday, putting him in third in program history with 44 hit by pitches, passing Panas.
• Stekl has now started in 212 career games in a Canisius uniform, moving him into a tie for the most in program history with Kevin Mahoney ('09).
 
UP NEXT
Canisius come back to Buffalo as they host a single nine-inning contest with Saint Bonaventure May 4 before heading down to Olean, N.Y. for a doubleheader with the Bonnies on May 6.
