Baseball Knocks Off No. 25 NC State, 3-2

GAME RECAP
RALEIGH, N.C. – Junior Joseph Preziuso's sacrifice fly, and fellow classmate Cyrus Senior's subsequent tag-up in the top of the ninth inning, pushed Canisius past No. 25 NC State 3-2 Sunday afternoon. The win puts the Golden Griffins at 8-3 on the season, while NC State suffered its second loss, snapping an eight-game winning streak and moving the team to 10-2 on the year.

The Wolfpack struck first in the bottom of the third, when sophomore Will Wilson sent a ball over the left field fence for a two-run home run, putting NC State ahead 2-0.

Senior Ryan Stekl answered in the following inning with a solo shot to cut the deficit to one. After back-to-back singles by senior Christ Conley and redshirt-sophomore William Krull, junior Conner Morro smashed a single of his own just inside the left-field line, bringing in Conley to even the score at 2-2 after four innings.

That score held heading in the top of the ninth. Conley led off with a walk and was pinch run for by Senior. An infield single by Krull moved Senior to second, and after a fly-ball out to left, junior Mark McKenna was hit by a pitch to load the bases, forcing a NC State pitching change. Preziuso worked his way to a 2-2 count before lifting a high fly-ball to left center, allowing Senior to race home from third base to put the Griffs up 3-2.

In the bottom of the ninth, senior Michael Ginther walked the lead-off batter and was replaced by senior closer Tyler Smith. Smith struck out back-to-back Wolfpack batters, and then after a walk, he got a ground-ball out second base to seal the victory and give him his fourth save of the season.

Senior J.P. Stevenson started on the hill for the Blue and Gold. The southpaw allowed the only two Wolfpack hits (home run and single). The 6-foot-1, 215-pounder put in 4.1 innings of work, striking out four and walking three before handing the ball off to sophomore Will Frank.

Frank continued to be the work-horse for the Griffs, as he gave them three innings of no-hit ball, only allowing two baserunners via walks. Ginther got two crucial outs to end the bottom of the eighth on a strike out and fly-out before pulled for Smith in the ninth.

GAME NOTES
