GAME RECAP
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Redshirt sophomore Chase Illig's two-run home run in the bottom of first inning was all West Virginia needed to pick up the 2-0 victory over Canisius Saturday afternoon in Morgantown, W.Va. Canisius now sits at 10-6 on year, as West Virginia moves to a game above .500 at 9-8.

Senior right-hander Charlie Sobieraski toed the rubber for his fifth start of the season for the Golden Griffins.

In the third inning, an already unbearable day of sub-30 degree weather turned worse as snow began to fall at the ballpark causing visibility issues and forcing a stoppage of play.

After a 34-minute delay, Sobieraski returned for the Griffs, finishing seven full innings, allowing the two runs, on three hits while striking out a pair. Junior Nolan Hunt came on in relief for an inning, surrendering a base hit via single.

On the West Virginia side, sophomore right-hander Alex Manoah mirrored Sobieraski with seven innings of work and three hits allowed, as well. Manoah was able to retire seven Golden Griffins on strikeouts, but he did allow four free passes and two wild pitches, however, Canisius was unable to capitalize. Freshman southpaw Jackson Wolf contributed 1.1 innings of no-hit ball as he bridged the gap to sophomore Sam Kessler who picked up the final two outs in the ninth, recording his fourth save of the season.
