GAME RECAP
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia walked-off in the bottom of the ninth as sophomore Isaiah Kearns singled to left field, scoring redshirt junior Jimmy Galuksy from second base, giving the Mountaineers a 10-9 victory over Canisius Friday afternoon in Morgantown, W.Va. The loss drops the Golden Griffins to 10-5, while West Virginia evens its record to 8-8.

The first two innings saw a total of 10 runs scored between the two sides starting with a sacrifice fly by redshirt senior Christ Conley, scoring fellow senior Gage Lanning. In the bottom of the frame, West Virginia plated four runs of its own on a two-run double and a two-run home run to hold the 4-1 lead after one full inning.

In the second, a Lanning hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded and a two-run double by redshirt senior Liam Wilson tied the game at 4-4. The Mountaineers got the lead right back in the bottom of the stanza on a single to right field and a RBI groundout to second base to capture the 6-4 advantage.

Canisius answered with two runs each in the top halves of the third and fourth innings. The output was capped off by back-to-back doubles by Conley and senior Ryan Stekl in the fourth, each plating a run, to hold the 8-6 lead after four innings.

WVU continued the seesaw on the scoreboard as they took advantage, this time with authority, on a no-doubter three-run home run by sophomore Brandon White, his first career four bagger, putting the home team back up, 9-8.

Once again, the lead didn't hold for long, as Conley jumped on the first pitch he saw in the top of the eighth, launching the ball over the right field fence for this third home run of the campaign.

After Canisius was unable to get a run in the top of the ninth, WVU came to bat looking to win the ballgame. Canisius sophomore reliever Kyle Warner, who was in his second inning of work out of the bullpen, got two quick outs via fly-outs and was looking to send the game to extra innings.  However, WVU's Galusky was plunked on the foot, and subsequently stole second base a few pitches later. Kearns worked his way to a full-count before roping a ball into left field. Lanning came charging in, but was unable to get a good enough grip on the ball, allowing Galusky to race in, just ahead of the throw, to score the game-winning run, giving WVU the 10-9 walk-off victory.

Both starting pitchers didn't last long as junior left-hander, Jared Kennedy only lasted 1.2 innings, surrendering six runs, for Canisius. On the Mountaineers side, senior right-hander, BJ Myers, went three innings, allowing eight of the Griffs nine runs, with only four being earned.
