Baseball Drops Series Finale in Extras

GAME RECAP
LYNCHBURG, Va. – Junior Tyler Galazins' bases loaded single in the bottom of the 11th inning propels Liberty to victory, avoiding the sweep. The victory puts the Flames at 9-7 overall, as Canisius snaps its four-game winning streak and now sit at 10-4 on the campaign.

The action remained quiet until senior Ryan Stekl woke up the bats with a solo blast to right field to give the Golden Griffins a 1-0 lead.

Senior Liam Wilson added to the Canisius lead in the seventh as he shot a ball through the right side, bringing in junior Joseph Preziuso.

Liberty finally got its first crooked number on the board in the bottom half of the same frame as junior D.J. Artis legged out a triple to right field, allowing sophomore Trey McDyre to walk home to cut the Blue and Gold lead to one, 2-1.

In the top of the eighth, senior Nick Capitano smashed a double in the right centerfield gap pushing in sophomore Jake Burlingame. Preziuso came up next and laid down a safety squeeze bunt that allowed junior Conner Morro to dart home from third to push the Griffs' lead back up to 4-1.

The Flames answered right back in the home half of the eighth as sophomore Cam Locklear roped a two-RBI single to right field bringing Liberty to within one run at 4-3.

Liberty manufactured a run off Canisius senior closer Tyler Smith in the bottom of the ninth as they used a walk and two stolen bases to tie the game at 4-4 and send it to extras.

The score held even until the 11th when sophomore Kyle Warner hit three straight Flames to load the bases with one gone in the inning. Junior Andrew Kneussle entered to try and get Canisius out of the jam, but he was successful as he surrendered a single past his drawn in infielders, allowing the winning run to cross the plate.

The loss spoiled an outstanding start by Canisius senior left-hander J.P. Stevenson. The 6-foot-1, 215-pounder gave the Griffs seven strong innings of one run ball, allowing five hits and striking out five.
