Baseball Outlasts Liberty, 7-4

GAME RECAP
LYNCHBURG, Va. – Junior Joseph Preziuso collected two hits and two RBI as Canisius outlasted Liberty, picking up the 7-4 victory. The Golden Griffins have won four in a row, and 10 of their last 11 games, boasting a 10-3 overall mark. Liberty sits one game below .500 at 8-7, losers of six of its last eight.

Senior Christ Conley wasted little time as he got the Griffs offense jump started in the top of the first with a two-run single though the left side, scoring junior Mark McKenna and senior Liam Wilson.  Liberty got a run back in the bottom of the frame to make the score 2-1 Canisius after one full inning.

The bats for both sides remained quiet until the fifth inning when Wilson got the Blue and Gold on the board with a double to left field, bringing in senior Preziuso to cross the plate. Senior Ryan Stekl followed up shortly after with a sacrifice fly to right field as senior Gage Lanning scampered home from third for the Griffs fourth run. The Flames manufactured a run in the bottom of the stanza on a ground out, to set the score at 4-2 in advantage of the Golden Griffins.

A Liberty error in the top of the sixth forcing in a Canisius run and a two-run double in the home half of the same inning, made the score 5-4.

Preziuso put the game away for the Griffs in the eighth as he hammered a single through the right side, allowing senior Cyrus Senior and Morro to come around and score giving Canisius the 7-4 lead, and the games' final tallies.

The Golden Griffins' pitching staff was able to piecemeal the game together as three different pitchers entered from the bullpen after senior right-hander Charlie Sobieraski only last four innings, allowing one run and three hits. Junior left-hander Nolan Hunt, who got the win in only one inning of work, surrendering one run on one hit before handing the ball to sophomore Will Frank for the next three frames. Senior closer Tyler Smith trotted out of the bullpen and had a relatively easy time shutting the door for Canisius, picking up his fifth save of the campaign.

On the Liberty side, redshirt senior Jackson Bertsch got his fourth start of the season, going six full innings, giving up five runs on seven hits, walking three and striking out the same as he was saddled with the loss.
