Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Basketball Falls to Quinnipiac, 64-39

The Canisius women's basketball team had trouble finding its offensive rhythm for a majority of the game as the Quinnipiac Bobcats defeated the Golden Griffins, 64-39 in Hamden, Conn. on Friday. With the loss Canisius dropped to 8-16 and 6-7 in conference, while Quinnipiac improved to 20-5 and 14-0 in MAAC play.

Despite keeping pace in the first quarter and trailing by just one after the frame, Quinnipiac outscored the Griffs 34-21 in the next two quarters as it distanced itself from the Golden Griffins. All-told the Quinnipiac offense tallied a 35 percent shooting percentage, while holding the Griffs to just 29 throughout the game.

Danielle Sanderlin led the team with 12 points, while Margret Halfdanardottir was next on the scoring list with eight points.

For Quinnipiac, it was Aryn McClure that paced the team, with 15 points, while the Griffs held the Jen Fay to just nine. Taylor Herd also recorded nine points, bolstering the Bobcat offense.

Quinnipiac controlled the boards, outrebounding the Griffs 41-32 and forced 19 Canisius turnovers which resulted in 26 Bobcat points. The Griffs forced just eight turnovers through 40 minutes.

THOUGHTS FROM COACH ZEH
"I thought we had some really good defensive stretches," head coach Terry Zeh said. "We did a nice job of matching in transition but needed to rebound better. I thought we had the tempo we wanted for big stretches. We didn't do a good job to start the second half. Their shooters got free and we took quick shots that allowed them to get a comfortable lead."

GAME NOTES
• With the win Quinnipiac extends its series lead over Canisius to 12-0
Danielle Sanderlin recorded double-digit points (12) for the third time this season.
• Canisius just hit one trey for the game, (1-of-8) which proved to be a deciding factor, all but one win this season has come when the Blue and Gold hit six-or-more 3-pointers.
