Canisius men's soccer takes to the road for the first time in league play Saturday when it travels to Fairfield for a 7 p.m. MAAC contest at Lessing Field.
 
The game will be shown live on Stags Sports Network.
 
Scouting Canisius
  • The Golden Griffins (6-2-1, 0-0-1 MAAC) take to the road for the first time in league play after opening their conference slate with a 2-2 draw against Siena at the Demske Sports Complex.
  • Junior Alex Grattarola and freshman Filippo Tamburini scored for Canisius against the Saints.
  • The duo is tied for second on the team in goals scored with four, two behind team and league leader junior Troy Brady.
  • Senior Lucian Preis picked up his team-leading fourth assist of the season on Tamburini's second-half tally. Preis is one of four Canisius players with three or more assists this season.
  • The Griffs offense continue to fare well in the latest NCAA statistical rankings as Canisius is among the top five programs in the country in scoring offense (2.44/5th), total goals (22/3rd), total points (68/4th) and total assists (5th/24).  
 
Scouting Fairfield
  • The Stags (5-3-0, 1-0-0 MAAC) head into Saturday's matchup riding a winning streak that stands at three games following a 1-0 over Quinnipiac to open MAAC play on Wednesday.
  • Don Junior-Bobe leads Fairfield in scoring with 10 points on the strength of a team-high five goals. Junior-Bobe notched the game-winning goal in the Stags win over the Bobcats on Wednesday.
  • Ben Wignall is second on the squad with nine points on three goals and three assists. Wignall paces the team in both shots (15) and shots on goal (9) this season.
  • Gordon Botterill and Jack Robinson have split time in goal for the Stags in 2017. Together, the duo has combined to post a 1.70 goals against average and a .702 save percentage in 740 minutes of action.
 
Canisius-Fairfield Series Notes
  • Saturday's contest serves as the 30th meeting between the programs.
  • Fairfield has controlled the series with Canisius owning a 22-3-4 advantage in the series.
  • The Griffs snapped a five-game losing skid to the Stags with a 1-0 victory last October at the Demske Sports Complex.
  • The last seven games in the series have all been decided by one-goal margins with the last three meetings ending in 1-0 decisions.

  • Canisius returns home Oct. 4 to host rival Niagara in a 7 p.m. MAAC contest at the Demske Sports Complex.
