Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Binghamton Halts Men’s Soccer Winning Streak at Six

Haris Brkovic tallied two goals and Kurt Wesch added a goal and an assist to lead Binghamton to a 5-1 victory over host Canisius in collegiate men's soccer action Saturday at the Demske Sports Complex.

Jack Muller and Nikos Psarras also scored for the Bearcats (3-4-1), who halted a five-game winless streak with the triumph. Senior Hakeem Milson tallied the lone goal for the Golden Griffins (6-2-0), who saw their program-record winning streak halted at six games.

Wesch gave the Bearcats a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute when his shot from the top of the box deflected off a Canisius defender and found the back of the net for his first goal of the campaign.

Binghamton took control of the contest early in the second half, tallying three goals in a 2:30 span to build a 4-0 cushion.

Muller opened the sequence at the 52:56 mark, heading home a cross from Wesch for his first goal of the season.

Brkovic capped out the outburst with consecutive tallies 1:58 apart, beating Canisius keeper Marco Trivellato with a shot from the top of the box just 32 seconds after Muller's tally, before capitalizing on a Canisius turnover for his second goal of the game in the 56th minute.

Canisius got on the board at the 62:17 mark when Milson headed home a corner kick from senior Lucian Preis for his first goal of the season to make it a 4-1 contest. The Bearcats closed out the scoring with tally from Psarras in the 87th minute.

Trivellato recorded seven saves for Canisius, including a stop on a Binghamton penalty kick in the 21st minute. Chris Shutler got the start between the posts for the Bearcats and made one save before being replaced at halftime by Alejandro Cubillo, who finished with five stops.

Head Coach Dermot McGrane Postgame Comments
"A three-minute meltdown in the second half put us in too big a hole to come back from.
Even though we didn't play our best game tonight, we still actually created some very good goal scoring chances, but it wasn't our night."
