Volleyball Splits Friday Series at Duquesne Invitational

The Canisius volleyball team split the first day of the Duquesne Invitational, downing Coppin State 3-1, and falling to Robert Morris, 3-0, to improve to 2-3 on the season. Both Claire Leonard and Sara Wesley tallied double-digit kills in each match to lead the squad offensively.

In the first match, Canisius bounced back from a dropped first set (25-23), reeling off three-straight set wins 28-26, 25-19 and 25-22, to earn its second win of the season.

Leonard led the way in the first match with 16 kills and five digs, with a .209 hitting percentage. Wesley also reached double-figures with 10. Sofia Lopez Acosta tallied 20 digs to lead the team, while Cassidy Ceriani tallied 37 assists and 14 digs, tallying the double-double.

In the second match, despite strong offense performances out of Wesley and Leonard, the Blue and Gold fell to the Colonials in straight sets, (25-21, 25-18, 25-23), suffering its lone loss of the day.

Wesley led the way with 12 kills, while Leonard posted her second double-figure day with 11 kills. Again Lopez Acosta paced the team in digs with 15, while Ceriani posted 29 assists.
