Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Miami (Ohio) Bests Women’s Basketball, 72-47

The Canisius women's basketball team struggled on the offensive end, shooting just 32 percent from the field, draining just 18-of-55, as the Miami RedHawks defeated the Golden Griffins 72-47 in oxford, Ohio.

Miami outscored Canisius 20-7 in the second quarter as it raced out to a 36-20 lead at halftime and never looked back.

While the Blue and Gold offense had trouble finding rhythm, the RedHawk offense rolled right along, led by Lauren Dickerson's 22-point performance. Kendall McCoy also aided the Miami offense with 16 points.

Despite the offensive woes, Canisius was led by its usual suspects, as Margret Halfdanardottir posted 11 points, while Sara Hinriksdottir posted 10, as she hit double-figures for a seventh-straight game.

Sophomore Anna Sweny led the team in rebounds as she is beginning to make a name for herself as she tallied six boards, after posting a career-high 10 against Oakland last Wednesday.

As a team the Blue and Gold allowed Miami to hit 54 percent from the floor and 54 percent from beyond the arc. Rebounds proved to be an issue as well for Canisius, as the RedHawks outrebounded the Griffs 40-22. However the Blue and Gold did help curb its turnovers woes, only giving it away 13 times while Miami turned it over 17 times.

THOUGHTS FROM COACH ZEH
"We had a really hard time defending Dickerson," head coach Terry Zeh said. "She was great and got really easy shots for her team. We are struggling offensively to get a flow and take create good shots for each other."
