• As Canisius continues to grow as a program, two players have cemented themselves as two of the top performers for Canisius.
• Sara Hinriksdottir and Maria Welch joined the team at the same time and have become two of the Griffs' biggest offensive threats.
• Looking at their first-two-year point totals and forecasting the future, both Welch and Hinriksdottir are on pace for 1,000 points in their career.
• Welch has tallied 517 points through her first two seasons, posting totals of 262 and 255, while Hinriksdottir exploded for 453 points last season.
• The last 1,000 point scorer was Kayla Hoohuli, who accomplished the feat in 2014-15. She tallied 1,190 points.

• Fresh off her breakout campaign, Sara Hinriksdottir received conference love in the preseason poll release, earning All-MAAC Preseason Second Team honors.
• Hinriksdottir, who took a year to transition to both academic life and athletic life in America, broke out in a big way in 2016-17, leading the team in both points per game and rebounds per game with marks of 14.6 and 5.3, respectively.
• The junior earned her first ever All-MAAC postseason award last year, as she was named to the All-MAAC second team.
• Hinriskdottir came into the  tournament, ranked sixth in the conference in points per game.
• It didn't take Hinriksdottir long to show that she was a different player last season, setting her new career-high in points quickly, with a 29-point effort on Dec. 19, 2016 against Morehead State.
• She also hit another milestone against Rider on Feb. 12, 2017, as the then-sophomore recorded her first double-double, scoring 20 points and notching 12 rebounds against the Broncs.

5.) CANISIUS FRESHMAN WILL ATTEMPT TO MAKE AN IMPACT - MEET THE NEWCOMERS
• As it goes every year the Blue and Gold said goodbye to some familiar faces with the graduation of its seniors but also says hello to the new generation of Golden Griffin women's basketball players.
• Joining the team in their first seasons are three freshman in Olivia Vernon, Anndea Zeigler and Danielle Sanderlin.
• Zeigler should be a familiar name to Western New York high school basketball fans as the first-year guard comes to Canisius from Cardinal O'Hara.
• Zeigler served as team captain for COH from 2015 to 2017.
• Zeigler also was named All-Western New York First Team in 2015 and 2016.
• Unlike Zeigler, Vernon traveled quite a distance to come to Canisius, arriving on Main Street from Gilbert, Ariz., having played for Perry High School
• Vernon was a 6A Division offensive player of he year in 2017 and was All-CUSD First Teamer in 2015-2017.
• One of Vernon's claim to fame was scoring 53 points in a single game to set the school record.
• Finally, Sanderlin comes to Canisius from Williamstown, N.J.
• At Gloucester Catholic , Sanderlin was an All-South Jersey honoree from 2014-2017, and a 2014-2017 selection in the All-Diamond League and SJT All-Area Team.
• She was the South Jersey Player of the Year in 2016 and 2017 and was the 2016-17 MVP.
