Griffs Shine on Canadian Box Lacrosse Circuit

A trio of former and current members of the Canisius men's lacrosse program enjoyed success in a pair of annual Canadian Lacrosse Association box lacrosse events.

Former Golden Griffins standouts Adam Jones '11 and Matt Vinc '05 were part of the Mann Cup winning Peterborough Lakers squad that captured the team's sixth title in the last 13 years in September. Sophomore Holden Garlent took home the Canadian Lacrosse Association's top junior box lacrosse title by capturing the Minto Cup with the Six Nations Arrows in August.

Mann Cup is the trophy awarded to the senior men's lacrosse champions of Canada. The championship is a best-of-seven, East versus West series played between the league champions of Major Series Lacrosse in the East and Western Lacrosse Association from the West.

Jones, an Owen Sound, Ontario, native, recorded 29 points on 12 goals and 17 assists during the best-of-seven championship series against the Westminster Salmonbellies that saw the Lakers rally from a 2-0 deficit to win four straight games and claim the title.

Vinc, meanwhile, appeared in four games between the pipes for the Lakers during the championship series. The St. Catherines, Ontario, product posted a 2-2 record, a .789 save percentage and a 10.47 goals against average in 229:20 of action.

The Minto Cup is awarded to Canada's Junior A box lacrosse national champion, which was first awarded in 1901 and was officially designated as the Junior 'A' lacrosse championship of Canada in 1937.

A native of Thorold, Ontario, Garlent led all defensive players with seven points (4g, 3a) as he helped the Arrows post a perfect 6-0 record and capture their third Minto Cup in the past four seasons.
