NORMAL, Ill. – Recent Canisius College graduate from the Griffs baseball team, Mike Elwood, signed on to play with the Normal Cornbelters of the Frontier League on Wednesday night.
Elwood joins the team from Central Illinois coming off his most successful season as a Griff, setting career-bests in appearances (17), wins (5) and ERA (4.26). The senior hurler was a versatile piece to the Canisius pitching staff, making four starts and proving to be a reliable pitcher out of the pen.
The Amherst, New York native finished his career with the Blue and Gold with a 5.88 earned run average, 85.2 innings pitched and 62 strikeouts.
Canisius finished the season with a 32-27 record and a 16-8 MAAC mark. The Blue and Gold qualified for its MAAC-best 10th-straight postseason appearance and won its first two games before being eliminated by 2016 MAAC Champion Fairfield and runner-up Siena in day three of the tournament.
