Sage Green Added to Canisius Rowing Staff

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Canisius College rowing program added to its coaching staff on Wednesday, as Sage Green will serve as assistant coach for the upcoming season. Green will join Erin Neppel and head coach Joel Furtek.

“I'm thrilled to have Sage join our staff at Canisius,” Furtek said. “She is a motivated, inspiring coach who has earned the immediate respect of our team through her hard work and leadership at Brown. I look forward to seeing her unleash the same commitment and intensity as a coach for the Griffs”

Green was a captain on Brown women's crew in 2014 and in 2013 she placed third in the 2V at the NCAAs and took Gold in the 2V at Ivy League Championships.  She was also a second-team All-Region selection, and rowed for the US junior and under-23 National Teams.

"One of the most important things that rowing has taught me is that championships are win with team work," Green said. "It's a really exciting idea for me to join the Griffs because Canisius ready to work. I'm relaly excited to see what this group of student athletes can do out on the water."

In addition to her rowing, Sage is actively involved in community organizing in Buffalo.  An International Baccalaureate graduate of City Honors High School, Sage rowed for City Honors and for the West Side Rowing Club where she won the Canadian Henley 4 times.  Sage likes classrooms as much as she likes boats and she has also studied at the University at Buffalo, the Harvard Graduate School of Design, and the Rhode Island School of Design.

“With Sage working alongside returning coach Erin Neppel, herself a second-team All-American and national championship attendee, we have a staff that has raced and won at the highest levels,” Furtek said. “With our staff assembled, I can honestly say that I am as excited about this season as I have been at any time in my 20 years of coaching. It's a great time to be a Griff!”
