The Canisius athletic department announced today that tickets for the 2015 MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship are on sale now through Ticketmaster.com and through the school's ticket office. Tickets for both sessions (two games May 1 and the championship game May 3) cost $5 and Canisius students with valid ID will be admitted free of charge.
The 2015 MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship will be held May 1 and 3 at the Demske Sports Complex, on the campus of Canisius College. The semifinal round games will be played Friday, May 1, with game times set for 4:30 p.m., and 8 p.m. The 2015 MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship game will start at noon on May 3, with the winner earning the conference's automatic berth into the 2015 NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championship.
Canisius earned the right to host this year's MAAC Championship tournament after the Golden Griffins secured the MAAC regular-season title with a perfect 8-0 record. The Griffs are led offensively by senior Tori Quinn, who ranks second in the MAAC and 10th in the nation with her 68 points on 35 goals and 33 assists. The Blue and Gold post four 20-plus goal scorers on this year's roster, including freshman Erica Evans, who is tied for the team lead in goals scored with 35 in her rookie campaign. Defensively, senior goalkeeper Kayla Scully is 7-3 in net this year a 9.55 goals against average and a .444 save percentage.
The four-team field for next weekend's MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship will be announced by the conference office on Saturday after the tournament's first two games are played. Canisius will be the No. 1 seed, with Fairfield earning the No. 2 seed. On Saturday, No. 3 seed Monmouth will host No. 6 seed Niagara while No. 4 seed Siena plays host to No. 5 seed Marist.
Canisius, which plays its final regular-season game of the season Saturday at Binghamton, is 11-5 overall on the year. The Griffs, the four-time defending MAAC champions, are currently riding a 10-game winning streak, which is a new program record.
