Tim Edwards Selected in MLL Draft

Senior midfielder Tim Edwards became the second Canisius College men's lacrosse player ever selected in the Major League Lacrosse Draft on Friday night when the Chesapeake Bayhawks choose Edwards with the 41st overall pick.

One of the nation's top all-around midfielders during his career, Edwards is a three-time All-MAAC selection, including a first-time honoree in both 2013 and 2014, and has twice been named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List. In his three seasons at Canisius, he has totaled 115 career points, 48 goals, 67 assists and 134 ground balls, while winning 58.1 percent of his faceoffs (162-279).

During his junior campaign in 2014, Edwards led the Griffs in points (44), assists (29), ground balls (83) and faceoff percentage (61.1). He ranked first in the MAAC and eight nationally with his .611 faceoff percentage, while also placing 14th in the country with 1.93 assists per game and 29th with 5.53 ground balls per game. Edwards was the only faceoff specialist in the country to record more than 15 points in 2014 (his 44 points were 32 more than the next highest player).

Edwards is the second Griff to be picked in the MLL Draft – the Rochester Rattlers selected Canisius All-American Adam Jones with the 38th overall pick in the 2011 draft.

Edwards wraps up his collegiate career with the Griffs during the 2015 season, which is set to begin with a home contest against Boston University on Feb. 14.
