Western Michigan Edges Griffs Men's Soccer

The Canisius College men's soccer lost to host Western Michigan on Friday afternoon, 2-1. The loss drops the Griffs to 2-3-1 on the season, while the Broncos improve to 3-4-0.

“I didn't feel we played well as a team today and we're struggling to find any consistency in our game right now,” said Canisius head coach Dermot McGrane. “We need to put today's game behind us so we can bounce back on Sunday and put in a good performance against Detroit.”

The Griffs were put in an early deficit when the Broncos scored just 8:02 into the contest. Matheau Rogers dribbled through the Canisius defense and sent a curling ball into the back of the net for the 1-0 advantage.

Canisius fought its way back into the game and eventually squared the contest in the 63rd minute. Sophomore defender Alex De Carolis netted his team-best third goal of the season, scoring from the edge of the 18-yard with a hard shot.

The Broncos, however, reclaimed their lead in the 73rd minute when Cam Jensen tallied the game-winning goal off a rebound.

Both schools fired 14 shots in the contest and had eight corner kicks. Senior Ryan Arvin recorded three saves for the Griffs, while Chase Rau stopped six shots in the win.

Canisius continues its road trip in Michigan with a contest at Detroit on Sunday morning. The schools are set to kick off at 11 a.m.
