Freshman Vince
Gravino of the Canisius College men's lacrosse team
continued his solid freshman campaign by picking up MAAC Rookie of the Week
honors for the second time this season.
In a pair of games last week, Gravino led the Canisius
offense with 11 points on seven goals and four assists. The rookie recorded his
first collegiate hat trick to go along with one assist in a non-conference
matchup with Hobart on Tuesday. All three of his tallies were with the man
advantage, making him the first Griff to net three man-up goals in a single
game since 2007.
Gravino then set career highs with seven points, four goals
and three assists against conference foe VMI on Saturday, leading Canisius to its
first win of the 2013 campaign. His seven points are the most by a Griff
freshman since Adam Jones also recorded seven points in 2008.
The Westlake, Ohio native has excelled in his first season
at Canisius. Gravino ranks second on the team with 18 points, while netting a
team-best 12 goals. In fact, Gravino ranks fourth among Division I freshmen
with 2.00 goals per game and sixth with 3.00 points per game.
The weekly honor is the second for Gravino this season as he
also earned MAAC Rookie of the Week honors on Feb. 25.
Gravino and the Griffs continue MAAC play on Saturday,
hosting Marist. Game time at the Demske Sports Complex is set for 7 p.m.
