After his first collegiate week of action, freshman Vince Gravino of the
Canisius College men's lacrosse team was named MAAC Rookie of the Week,
announced by the conference on Monday.
In a pair of games against Air Force and No. 11 Denver at
the Frontier Airlines Face-Off Classic, Gravino totaled four points, three
goals and one assist. In his first Division I contest, the rookie netted two
goals to go along with an assist against the Falcons. He then followed with a
goal versus the nationally-ranked Pioneers.
Gravino is now tied for the team lead with four points and three
goals. He is just the third players in the program's history to collect MAAC
Rookie of the Week honors following his first week of action, joining Simon
Giourmetakis in 2009 and Tim Edwards in 2012.
Gravino and the Griffs return to action on Tuesday, March 5,
hosting No. 7 Cornell in the team's home opener. Game time between Canisius and
the nationally-ranked Big Red is set for 4 p.m.
