Sophomore midfielder Tim
Edwards of the Canisius College lacrosse team was named
to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List, announced the Tewaaraton Foundation on
Friday.
The Tewaaraton Award was established in 2000 and is the
pre-eminent lacrosse award, given annually the NCAA men's and women's lacrosse
player of the year. Edwards is just the second Griff to be listed on the
award's watch list, joining Adam Jones in 2010.
The 2012 MAAC Rookie of the Year, Edwards recorded 32
points, 13 goals and a team-best 19 assists during his freshman campaign. Also
a member of the All-MAAC Second Team, Edwards ranked fourth among freshman midfielders
in the country with 2.29 points per game.
The rookie recorded at least one point in all 14 games last
season and was instrumental in helping the Griffs to the program's second MAAC
Championship. Edwards netted the game-winning goal in the conference title game
with just 1:46 remaining in a 10-9 victory over Siena.
Edwards was also selected to the MAAC All-Preseason Team
prior to the year.
Canisius opens the 2013 season on Saturday, playing Air
Force in Denver.
