Men?s Soccer Hosts Fairfield on Saturday Night

Men's Soccer Canisius College Athletics

Men's Soccer Falls at Fairfield, 2-1

The Canisius College men's soccer lost a 2-1 decision to host Fairfield on Saturday night. The loss marks the first for the Griffs in MAAC play this season as the team drops to 1-1-1 in conference play and 5-4-2 overall. The Stags improve to 4-3-2 and 1-1-1 against league foes.

Fairfield netted the first goal of the game in the 35th minute of play when Jon Clements scored on a penalty kick. The Stags then stretched their lead to two when Reco McLaren knocked in his own rebound in the 53rd minute.

Junior Pat Conlon responded for the Griffs with his first collegiate goal in the 58th minute. The junior collected a loose ball and knocked it in to pull Canisius within one, 2-1.

The Griffs, however, were unable to find the equalizer in the final 32-plus minutes. In a late charge toward goal, junior Asani Samuels fired a shot on net in the 88th minute but the Fairfield keeper got a hand on it and knocked out of bounds to preserve the 2-1 victory.

The Stags finished the game with a 16-10 advantage in shots and a 6-5 edge in corner kicks. Senior Ryan Arvin matched his career high with six saves for the Griffs, while Joe Martin stopped four shots for Fairfield.

The Griffs return home for a MAAC contest with Siena on Wednesday. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at the Demske Sports Complex.
