Box Score Bucknell outscored the Canisius College men's lacrosse team 12-0 in the second and third quarters en route to a convincing 17-2 victory in the season openers for both schools.
The teams played a close first period with the Bison leading, 2-1, before Bucknell broke the game open. The Bison tallied the first two goals of the game but Canisius answered back when senior Mike Rautenstrauch scored the Griffs' first goal of the 2011 campaign.
Bucknell then dominated the next two periods of play, scoring eight goals in the second stanza and four in the third to take a 14-1 advantage into the final frame.
The Bison also scored the first three goals of the four quarter before junior Jimmy Haney ended the 15-0- run with his first score of the season.
Canisius returns to action next Saturday, playing a road game at Harvard. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
Game Notes: The 15-goal defeat was the worst for the Griffs in a regulation game since a 22-5 loss to Hobart on April 18, 2006 ... Canisius has lost its last eight season openers ... Senior Adam Jones extended his streak of recording a point to 30-consecutive games with an assist on Haney's goal, the fourth-longest streak in the country.
