The Canisius College women's lacrosse team opens its home schedule on Saturday with a contest against Robert Morris. The Griffs and the Colonials will battle beginning at 1 p.m.
WHAT CAN BROWN DO FOR YOU?
• Since her arrival on campus, senior Marissa Brown has proved to a valuable player in a number of ways at Canisius.
• This season, Brown will play more of a defensive role with the Griffs. Three games in, Brown has already earned MAAC Defensive Player of the Week once.
• Brown earned the weekly accolade after leading the team with five ground balls and three caused turnovers in a 13-12 win over Longwood.
• Last season, Brown ranked third nationally with 2.72 caused turnovers per game.
• During her career, Brown ranks second in school history with 92 caused turnovers, third with 95 draw controls and 10th with 45 goals.
POISSANT LEADS CANISIUS TO SEASON-OPENING VICTORY
• Senior Brett Poissant was the hero of the Griffs' 13-12 win against Longwood.
• In the season opener, Poissant set a career high with five points, while matching her personal best with four goals.
• Trailing 12-10, Poissant scored a goal and then assisted on the game-tying score. The senior then netted the game-winning score with 49 seconds remaining to lift the Griffs to victory.
• Poissant leads Canisius this season with six points, five goals and 12 draw controls.
FREE SCORES
• What was most impressive about senior Brett Poissant's game-winning score against Longwood was that it came on a free-position shot.
• Before her game-winning goal against the Lancers, Poissant was 0-for-20 on free-position shots during her career.
• The senior also scored in her only other attempt of the season against Connecticut, making her a perfect 2-for-2 this season.
QUINN STRONG IN RETURN
• Junior Carly Quinn waited a long time to return for her second season with the Griffs.
• Quinn was forced to miss her entire sophomore season due to injury but has returned better than ever in 2010.
• The junior ranks second on the team with four goals this season. During her freshman campaign, Quinn recorded 15 points and seven goals in 18 contests.
CANISIUS - ROBERT MORRIS SERIES HISTORY
• Canisius has never lost to the Colonials, winning each of the previous five meetings.
• The Griffs are also a perfect 3-0 at the Demske Sports Complex against Robert Morris.
• Last season, Canisius earned a 13-11 victory over the Colonials. Chelsea Martinez led the Griffs with six points and five goals, while Ashley Curtis (4g) and Brianne Laffey (1g, 3a) each added four points.
SCOUTING THE COLONIALS
• Robert Morris has opened the season with a 1-1 record after a 14-4 loss to Navy and a 10-8 win over Bucknell on Sunday.
• Through two games, Courtney Sicinski has led the Colonials with four goals.
• Ashley Trombetta (3g, 1a) and Ali Gibbons (2g, 2a) have also posted a team-best four points this season.
• Erica Webb has started both games in net for the Colonials, registering a goals against average of 14.67 and a save percentage of .463.
