Choy Named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District

Canisius College baseball player Ian Choy was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I Second Team on Thursday. The honor is voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) whose schools are in the region.

Choy currently has a 3.44 grade point average and is in his junior year, pursuing a degree in economics.

The outfielder leads Canisius in batting average (.379) and on-base percentage (.478). Since March 16, Choy has been hitting .430 (46-for-107). The Mississauga, Ontario native has at least one hit in 26 of the last 33 games. Choy has six home runs since the first of April after recording four home runs in his previous 121 games.

Choy was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Week on April 5, after going 8-for-12 with three home runs and five RBI. Choy ranks sixth in program history with 163 hits and was named the MAAC Rookie of the Year and a freshman All-American by Louisville Slugger in 2007.

The Canisius College baseball team, sitting at 28-19 overall and in third place in the MAAC with an 11-7 record, has won five straight and 13 of 16. The Griffs start a six-game homestand this weekend at the Demske Sports Complex, with Saturday's doubleheader against Fairfield scheduled for a first pitch of 12 p.m.
