Box Score The Canisius College men's lacrosse team dropped a 17-6 decision to host Hobart on Tuesday night. With the loss, the Griffs are now 4-8 on the season, while the Statesmen improve to 7-5.
Sophomore Adam Jones scored two goals to lead the Griffs offense, while sophomore Mike Benzinger and freshman Jimmy Haney also recorded two points for Canisius, registering a goal and an assist. Senior Justin Rychlicki and sophomore Tom Vivian both added a goal for the Griffs.
Senior Bryan Jack and freshman Kerry Freeburg split time in goal for Canisius. Jack stopped six shots in the first three quarters of play, while Freeburg made three saves appearing in his first collegiate game.
The Statesmen scored 1:50 into the contest and never looked back. Hobart tallied the first seven goals of the game before Haney notched a man-up goal with 5:46 remaining in the second period. Jones followed with a man-down score as Hobart claimed a 7-2 halftime lead.
Hobart continued to add its lead after intermission. The Griffs kept the game within striking distance early in the second half but with the Statesmen leading 11-5, Hobart finished the game on a 6-1 run to seal its seventh win of the 2009 season.
The Statesmen were led by Kevin Curtin and Chris Pedersen, who both tallied five points on two goals and three assists. Max Silberlicht earned the victory in goal, stopping 11 Canisius shots.
The Griffs wrap up the regular season on Saturday with a home contest against VMI. The Senior Day contest is slated to begin at 1 p.m. at the Demske Sports Complex.
Game Notes: Sophomore Nick LoCoco was held without a point for the first time in his career, ending his 27-game scoring streak. His streak was the eighth-longest in the country ... Jones now has the longest active streak by a Griff, scoring a goal in 15-straight contests ... Canisius has lost all 10 meetings to Hobart.
