Box Score The 12th-ranked Princeton Tigers outscored the Canisius men's lacrosse team 12-3 in the second half to overcome a halftime deficit and defeat the Griffs, 14-6. The loss drops Canisius to 0-2 on the season, while the Tigers won their season opener.
Sophomore Adam Jones led the Canisius attack with four points, recording a hat trick and adding an assist. Classmate Nick LoCoco scored a goal and added two helpers, while junior Dan Coates and freshman Jimmy Haney rounded out the scoring for Canisius with a goal apiece.
Senior Bryan Jack recorded eight of his 10 saves in the first half to help the Griffs earn the halftime advantage. Jack yielded nine goals before Kyle Bell replaced him in the third quarter.
Princeton tallied the lone goal of the first quarter when Rich Sgalardi scored 3:36 into the game. The Griffs responded with three-straight scores in the second stanza to take a 3-1 advantage. LoCoco knotted the game off a feed from Jones 1:24 into the period. Coates and Jones then added goals with LoCoco posting the assists to give Canisius a two-goal edge with five minutes left in the opening half. Princeton added a goal as the two teams headed into intermission with Canisius leading, 3-2.
The Tigers came out firing in the third period, outscoring the Griffs 8-1 in the quarter. Princeton scored the first two goals of the half before Jones leveled the game at four. The Tigers then scored the final six goals of the period to head into the fourth with a 10-4 advantage.
Canisius pulled to within two, 10-6, when Jones and Haney both tallied unassisted goals in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter. However, the Griffs could not find the back of the cage again while the Tigers added four more goals.
Jack McBride led Princeton with five points and four goals. Tyler Fiorito made four saves in the first half of play, while Nikhil Ashra stopped five shots in the second stanza.
Canisius is off until March 10 when the Griffs travel to Ithaca, N.Y. to face seventh-ranked Cornell.
