ABOUT HOWARD

  • Team is led by Retha Koefoed, Cynthia Snyder and Rachael Lee, who each have two goals and one assist for five points...Four Bison have at least one goal....The same four also have one assist.
  • Goalkeeper Chanel Bell has a .787 save percentage with 85 saves and 23 goals against in 870:00 minutes.  Howard leads their opponents 85-44 in saves and 34-30 in corner kicks.


SERIES HISTORY

  • Canisius and Howard have been in competition since the 2000 season, when Canisius participated in Youngstown State Tournament. Friday's game will be the fourth matchup between the two teams and the third time the Griffs will play in Washington, D.C.

ABOUT NIAGARA

  • The Purple Eagles are led by  Jamie Raepple, who has four goals and one assist for nine points, followed by Chiara Greco, with three goals and three assists for nine points....Seven Purple Eagles have at least one goal on the season, while six have at least one assist.
  • Goalkeeper Ashleigh Bowers has a .816 save percentage with 62 saves and14 goals against in 1197:03 minutes. Niagara leads their opponents in shots 174-165 and ties in goals (14) and saves (63) with a total 13 opponents this season.


SERIES HISTORY

  • Canisius and Niagara have been in competition since the 1981 season, the inaugural year of the Golden Griffin's women's soccer program. Sunday's game will be the 35th regular season match between the two teams and the 18th game hosted by the Griffs.  The long-time rivalry between the two teams was most recently punctuated by the Griffs' win over Niagara in the 2008 season, when the Griffs took a 1-0 win to eliminate Niagara from the running for a post-season berth.

BATTLE OF THE BRIDGE AND THE CANAL CUP

  • During the 2006-07 athletic season, Canisius College and Niagara University developed an all-sports competition, in an effort to enhance the historic rivalry between the Golden Griffins and Purple Eagles. This Sunday's competition will open the 2009-10 race for the Canal Cup.
  • The name of the series is in reference to the Grand Island Bridge, which each team crosses when traveling to the other's campus. The name of the trophy is in reference to the Erie Canal, which intersects Niagara County, where Niagara is located, and Erie County, where Canisius is located.
  • Two points are awarded to the winning school. One point is awarded to both schools if the game/series ends in a tie. No points are awarded to the losing school.
