Greg Fargo Named Head Women's Coach at Elmira

Greg Fargo, an assistant coach with the Canisius hockey team during the last two seasons, has been named the head coach of the Elmira Soaring Eagles women's hockey team. Fargo graduated from Elmira in 2006 and spent four seasons as a goalie for the men's team.

During his two seasons with the Griffs, Fargo coached the team's goaltenders and assisted with the day-to-day operations of the program, including recruiting, video operations, academics, community outreach and other on-campus duties. During the 2007-08 season, the Canisius goalies earned five Atlantic Hockey Goaltender of the Week honors, the most of any team in the league.

Off the ice, Fargo contributed greatly to his player's success in the classroom, helping the team's overall grade point average increase from a 2.99 to a 3.14 in just his first season with the team.

As a player for the Soaring Eagles, from 2002-2006, Fargo had one of the most prolific careers between the pipes ever. In his tenure at Elmira, Fargo helped Elmira earn two appearances in the ECAC West Championship finals and the NCAA Division III Frozen Four.

Fargo earned his masters in physical education while at Canisius. At Elmira, he will also serve as the golf coach.
